Chappelle is a legend. Brennan wrote for him on The Dave Chappelle show at least until Dave abruptly left in the middle of the 3rd season. Can’t remember if they worked together after. If you haven’t read about Dave abruptly leaving his show at its peak and going to Africa it’s a fascinating case study on the weight of success, fame and creativity.
Some of my favorite sketches Dave did were the Rick James / Charlie Murphy ones. They’re off the charts funny, even still today, after being parodied and over-impersonated by drunk bros. Chappelle as Prince is also comedy fire. Another memorable sketch that shows the range of his creativity is the one about the black, blind white supremacist. It’s 20 years old at this point and def hits that note— “how tf did they air that?” and tbf, it got some side-eye buzz back then too.
